October 26, 2025 — As temperatures drop and trees across Clovis begin to shed their golden coats, the city is reminding residents to think twice before sweeping piles of leaves into the street.
While the sight of fallen leaves signals the heart of autumn, it also brings challenges for the city’s street sweeping program. The sweepers, designed to collect fine dust and small debris, aren’t built to handle large amounts of leaves. When overloaded, the machines can clog or even break down, halting the city’s efforts to keep roads clean and air and water systems clear.
Instead, residents are asked to dispose of excess leaves through their Organics (green) cart—without bagging them—or by using a gardening service. Large piles left along the curb could cause the sweepers to skip over homes entirely to prevent mechanical issues.
City officials emphasize that proper leaf disposal not only prevents costly equipment repairs but also ensures that sweepers can continue doing their part to keep Clovis clean and environmentally healthy.
For those unsure when their street will be swept, the city offers an easy-to-use online map showing sweeping schedules and routes. Residents can check it out by visiting: City of Clovis Street Sweeping Map.
As the season settles in, the city asks residents to lend a hand—and a rake—in keeping Clovis clean this fall.
