July 24, 2025 — The Clovis Police Department will be conducting a driving under the influence (DUI) checkpoint this Friday, July 25, 2025, from 8:00 P.M. to 1:00 A.M. The specific location of the checkpoint remains undisclosed.

According to Ty Wood, Public Information Officer for the Clovis Police Department, DUI checkpoint locations are strategically chosen based on data indicating areas with a higher incidence of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary goal of these checkpoints is to enhance public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” stated Corporal Mark Bradford, Traffic Supervisor. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

The Clovis Police Department wants to remind the community that impaired driving extends beyond alcohol consumption. Drivers should be aware that certain prescription medications and even over-the-counter drugs can impair their ability to drive safely. Furthermore, while both medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, it is crucial to understand that driving under the influence of marijuana is strictly illegal.

Drivers who are charged with a first-time DUI can face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, in addition to having their license suspended.

Funding for this vital program has been provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, in collaboration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
