May 2nd, 2025 — The Clovis Police Department held a press conference Friday morning, May 2, at their headquarters in regard to the shooting suspect that took the life of Clovis teen, Caleb Quick, on Wednesday night, April 23, in the parking lot of McDonald’s located at Willow and Nees.
Quick, 18-years-old, was a senior at Clovis Online School and previously attended Buchanan High School. He went to McDonald’s to meet up with friends. The suspect was wearing an all black hoodie that covered his head while carrying a handgun and wearing a mask. He lingered in the restaurant for 13 minutes staring at Quick and then shot him in the head in the parking lot before 9 p.m. Law enforcement are saying it was a “targeted, pre-planned act of violence.”
“Through video surveillance we were able to confirm the suspect was picked up in a neighborhood west of Willow by a Tesla that was driven by an unknown driver. It was a 2024 or newer model, a white Model 3,” said police chief Curt Fleming.
Clovis PD has authored multiple search warrants, while processing physical and digital evidence, and have interviewed in excess of over 50 people including witnesses along with tips from the community.
The police describe the suspect as a light skinned Hispanic or white male, between 5’10” to 6‘0 tall and his whereabouts are still unknown. They’re looking toward the community for any assistance or tips that prove helpful to the case. No more surveillance footage will be released.
“Our number one goal is to keep our community safe. When I got the phone call and ultimately when I saw the video and how it transpired I was shocked. This doesn’t happen in our city and I don’t want it to be a common occurrence,” said Fleming. “That’s why every detective that we have, this is the sole thing we’re working on right now. Everything else has taken a back seat and this is our focus.”
Fleming informed the Clovis Roundup that the Clovis PD is collaborating with additional law enforcement from Fresno PD and the Sheriff’s Department, the MAGEC Unit, and Madera County to help them with the case.
Representatives from Valley Crime Stoppers, president Dale Mendoza, executive director Erica Mataram, and Detective John Hustedde, were also in attendance. They’ve increased the reward money to $20,000.
“This is one of the worst crimes that I’ve had. A young guy that young with his whole life ahead of him and cut short like that and there’s no reason for that whatsoever. This shocks the community as a whole,” said Mendoza.
“It’s a high priority for everyone involved because of the nature of the crime being a targeted homicide. We want do everything that we can to get this case solved as quickly as possible,” said Mataram.
If you have an information regarding the case call the Clovis Police Department or Valley Crime Stoppers (559) 498-STOP.
