September 29, 2025 — Festivalgoers at ClovisFest this past weekend may have noticed a new patrol vehicle parked among the crowds, but this one isn’t designed for moving through traffic. It’s the “COW Car,” short for Camera-On-Wheels, the latest tool from the Clovis Police Department aimed at keeping the community safe.
The COW Car is equipped with high-resolution cameras capable of recording and transmitting live video for up to a week at a time. Unlike traditional patrol cars, it is designed to remain parked and unattended, serving as a watchful presence at community events, high-traffic areas, and locations where crime has been reported.
Police officials said the COW Car allows officers to monitor activity remotely, day or night, providing both deterrence and evidence-gathering capabilities.
Joining the COW Car in the city’s growing toolbox is a new camera trailer, offering the same technology and mobility. Together, they expand the department’s ability to keep eyes on the ground without always requiring officers on-site.
For business and property owners, the Clovis Police Department is making both the COW Car and the camera trailer available for deployment near businesses that may be experiencing crime.
COW Car & Camera Trailer Features:
-
Operates unattended, with no staff on-site
-
Records video continuously for up to a week
-
High-resolution, day-and-night recording
-
Sends live video feeds remotely to officers
The department says residents can expect to see the COW Car stationed throughout Clovis in the months ahead as part of its effort to strengthen community safety.
