Clovis, CA – February 28, 2025 — The landscape of municipal elections in Clovis is on the brink of historic change as the City Council prepares to transition from at-large voting to district-based elections. Following months of community engagement and deliberation, Clovis officials have unveiled the final draft submissions for the city’s inaugural election district map.
The shift towards district-based elections marks a significant departure from Clovis’ longstanding tradition of at-large voting, aiming to ensure broader representation and community-focused governance. Thirteen distinct draft maps were submitted by residents and stakeholders ahead of the February 21 deadline, reflecting a diversity of perspectives on how best to delineate electoral districts within the city.
Of the thirteen submissions received, ten have met rigorous criteria regarding district boundaries and population composition, as stipulated by both state and federal law. The City Council is now narrowing its focus to six particularly promising maps, each proposing a five-district structure with distinct variations in geographic boundaries and demographic composition.
To gather public feedback and finalize the selection process, the Clovis City Council has scheduled a final Public Hearing on March 4, 2025, at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers. This crucial meeting will provide residents with an opportunity to voice their opinions on the proposed district maps and participate in the selection of the final map that will govern future municipal elections.
“For those unable to attend the Public Hearing in person, all draft maps are available for review on the City’s official website,” the spokesperson added, directing residents to visit cityofclovis.com/districts. An interactive map tool and detailed PDFs of each submission, complete with accompanying demographic data, offer comprehensive insights into the proposed electoral districts.
Following the March 4 Public Hearing, the Clovis City Council plans to introduce an ordinance formally adopting by-district elections, marking a milestone in local governance aimed at enhancing representation and accountability. The selected district map will serve as the blueprint for future municipal elections in Clovis, subject to potential adjustments following the next Census cycle.
Residents are encouraged to participate actively in this historic decision-making process by attending the final Public Hearing and sharing their perspectives on the proposed district maps. Their input will shape the future electoral landscape of Clovis, ensuring that the adopted district map reflects the diverse voices and interests of the community.
