February 27, 2025 – Clovis Unified School District’s (CUSD) annual “Crystal Awards” was a night to remember at the Clovis North Educational Center.
Celebrating outstanding educators within CUSD, the “Crystal Awards” are the honor Clovis Unified bestows upon individuals who have made a significant impact in the school district, whether they be teachers, athletic coaches, administrators, or other district faculty and staff.
As these individuals were welcomed into the venue, an air of excitement permeated each conversation. A tent displayed at the entrance enveloped the people inside with photos displayed of past Crystal Award winners, showcasing the legacy of the people who have contributed immensely to the school district’s wellbeing.
Forty-five minutes before the event was scheduled to begin, the building was crowded with people chatting amongst one another, sharing their enthusiasm for the evening ahead. Once the doors opened to the concert hall, attendees flooded into the room, eager to snag a seat before the ceremony began.
CUSD Governing Board President Yolanda Moore was one of several speakers to open the ceremony, expressing her congratulations to the award winners.
“We never seem to fall short on having awesome employees to recognize and celebrate,” she said. “I am honored and grateful that you chose this district to devote your career to.”
CUSD Superintendent Dr. Corrine Folmer took to the stage following Moore’s remarks to thank the educators being recognized.
“We are so excited to be here tonight, to celebrate what we see in you that sometimes maybe you don’t even see in yourself,” she stated.
She continued to thank the families of the educators as well, stating, “I know that the Clovis Unified way requires hard work and oftentimes lots of hours away from home; this may be a formal affair, but we aren’t opposed to serious cheering.”
Throughout the evening, Dr. Folmer’s encouragement was heeded. Each Crystal Award recipient received enthusiastic applause from family, friends, and colleagues.
Dr. Folmer then announced that this year’s ceremony would begin with a special tribute. The first Crystal Award was presented posthumously to Marcy Robison, a former Resource Specialist at Bud Rank Elementary School, who tragically passed away in a vehicle accident last September.
In a touching moment, Robison’s husband, Kris, and their children, Malia and Kobe, accepted the award on her behalf, receiving a standing ovation from the tearful audience.
Bud Rank Principal Ryan Gettman offered commentary on Robison’s receiving the award, stating, “Her colleagues were privileged to witness Marcy’s compassionate character and her ‘doing whatever is needed for students, no matter the work required’ approach to teaching.”
Similarly heartfelt tributes were given to each Crystal Award recipient. Videos featuring photos of their professional and personal lives highlighted their unique contributions to the district, showcasing the diversity and excellence within CUSD.
Each honoree received a special title reflecting their dedication and impact. Associate Superintendent for Human Resources and Employee Relations Barry Jager was named “bridge-builder,” while others were recognized as “tech wiz” or “budget master.”
While the Crystal Awards have a long-standing tradition of recognizing outstanding educators, these new elements added a fresh and unique feel to the event, preserving its historic integrity.
As the evening concluded, attendees left the building, reflecting on the accomplishments and dedication of these exceptional educators. The community eagerly anticipates the future contributions of upcoming Crystal Award recipients to CUSD students.
