September 20, 2025 — Old Town Clovis was alive with patriotic pride on Friday, September 19, 2025, as the community gathered for the annual Military Appreciation Night. Hosted by the Clovis Veterans Memorial District in collaboration with Old Town businesses, the event drew thousands to celebrate and recognize the service of local military members and veterans.

The evening, which coincided with the popular farmers’ market, featured a festive atmosphere complete with a patriotic concert and a wide array of informational booths. “The turnout has been wonderful,” said Amy Cross, Director of Operations for the Clovis Veterans Memorial District. “There’s been a continuous flow of the community coming out… to celebrate our military and learn more about our veterans organizations and local military that’s right here.”

Organizers estimated the attendance in the thousands, a strong showing that underscores the deep-rooted support for the armed forces in the Clovis community. Attendees had the unique opportunity to interact with representatives from various military branches and local units, including the Marine Corps, the 144th Fighter Wing, the 324th Military Police Battalion, and the California National Guard.

“It’s also really important for military appreciation,” said Saiya Sohal, the district’s Youth Engagement Coordinator. “For us to be able to help facilitate these conversations, it’s what we’re here for.”

Beyond the booths for active-duty and reserve units, the event served as a valuable resource hub. Sohal noted that attendees were “surprised at how many organizations locally are here to support their veterans and how many resources there are,” pointing to the presence of universities like Grand Canyon and UC Merced, which highlighted their veteran-specific programs.

As the Clovis Veterans Memorial District looks ahead to its 80th anniversary in 2026, events like Military Appreciation Night serve as a testament to its ongoing mission to provide a “permanent living memorial” and to promote a legacy of service. The district, established in 1946, continues to be a cornerstone for community gatherings, reflection, and honoring those who have served.
