July 14, 2025 — It was morphin’ time on Saturday, July 12, when actor David Yost, who portrayed the original Blue Power Ranger, came to Legends Comics in Clovis to sign autographs and take photos with fans.
One of the original cast members from the children’s series “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers,” Yost portrayed the character Billy Cranston. In the storyline, he was the nerd and socially awkward but was reliable for his intelligence and inventions.
He’s one of the longest-serving Rangers, playing the character on television in “Mighty Morphin'” (1993-1995), “Mighty Morphin’ Alien Rangers” (1996), “Power Rangers Zeo” (1996), and “Power Rangers Cosmic Fury” (2023) on Netflix. On film, he was in “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie” (1995), which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and reuniting with some of the original cast members on “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Once and Always” (2023) on Netflix.
Throughout the afternoon and early evening, Yost was signing autographs for his fans—older and young and families—signing memorabilia ranging from action figures to comic books. He even posed with the fans for photos. He’d shout the famous lines from the show like “It’s Morphin Time!” and “Triceratops!” that you could hear throughout the store.
The owners of the comic book store, and couple, Darrick Oyama and Kris Iwamoto, know how important it is to bring high-profile people like Yost to the Central Valley. For popular gatherings like the San Diego Comic-Con being the most popular, travel expenses and tickets for the event in this economy can be astronomical. They’re providing an alternate option by bringing that experience into town.
“We just kind of did it to test the waters to bring the convention experience to the people here in the Central Valley that can’t go to the big conventions. We just kind of wanted to bring that here and it took off from there,” Oyama told the Clovis Roundup.
It was the store’s 60th signing with a celebrity from the comic book world. They’ve brought stars ranging from film and television actors, comic writers, artists, and creators. The store has brought the majority of the original cast members for appearances, showcasing their popularity in the area. Oyama mentioned that actors from the original series are some of the most popular guests he’s had at the store.
The local convention and cosplay community in Clovis has grown the last few years. The fans’ dedication is often overlooked in comparison to other cities. Darrick and Kris have been to all the big cons in the country, and they speak highly of the local fanbase. Oyama says that people here are very respectful and genuine compared to the others he’s encountered.
Attendees shared a collective feeling of nostalgia and excitement throughout the event. Many expressed the joy of seeing a childhood hero and reliving cherished memories, making the experience truly “morphenomenal” for all.
