September 24, 2025 — Soroptimist International of Clovis held a fun get acquainted, “Find out How to Bee a Soroptimist” event at Kileen’s Succulent Vertical Gardens in east Clovis. The play on the word “bee” was to recognize the garden-friendly insect.
By 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, guests started to arrive at the cozy nursery boutique located at 7313 DeWolf. A variety of beverages welcomed visitors as they strolled through the nursery, examined the flats of plants, selection of pots, and visited the gift shop. Tacos, chips, salsa and dessert were available while socializing, then guests had the opportunity to create a customized and beautiful succulent arrangement while learning about the Soroptimist mission.
Soroptimist members help girls and women improve their lives through education. The mission of the organization is to provide the education and training needed to achieve economic empowerment through the “Dream” programs.
The Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls empowers girls to break cycles of racism, poverty, and abuse to achieve their dreams. One participant said, “I learned about career opportunities I never knew about. I’m excited and hopeful about my future…I have goals now that I want to achieve.”
Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women assist women who are the primary source of income for their families by providing resources to further improve their education, skills, and employment prospects. Recipients may use the cash reward to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation.
LiveYourDream.org is an online volunteer community that provides advocacy and action opportunities to spread awareness about causes such as access to education, empowering girls, and ending violence against women.
Soroptimists also support many causes locally; volunteers see the results of their efforts flourish in their communities with more than 100,000 girls and women realizing their goals. Since its inception over a century ago, the program has over 25,000 members in countries across North America, South America, and the Pacific Rim. It is through generous
donations and the work of volunteers that more than $3 million in education grants are distributed to over 2,000 women worldwide. By helping individual women realize their full potential, families, communities and countries become stronger.
Save the date: On Saturday, October 25, Soroptimists will present “Denim & Diamonds” at the Clovis Veterans Memorial District. Bring friends and enjoy an evening that includes a catered dinner, dancing to live music, a live and silent auction, and much more. Additional ticket information and Soroptimist membership details are available at siclovis.org.
