May 10, 2025 — In a somber yet significant development, the Clovis Police Department announced yesterday the arrest of two teenage suspects in connection with the murder of Caleb Quick, which occurred on the evening of April 23rd. At a press conference held earlier today, Police Chief Curt Fleming offered an update on the investigation, expressing confidence in the safety of the Clovis community following the arrests.

He commended the relentless efforts of the department’s detectives, who have worked “nonstop 7 days a week” on this case. The suspects, both 16-year-old juveniles attending schools within the Clovis Unified School District, were apprehended yesterday. The male suspect has been booked on a charge of penal code section 187, murder, as the alleged shooter. The female suspect, identified as the driver of the white Tesla involved, also faces a charge under penal code section 187.

Chief Fleming provided a detailed timeline of events leading up to and following the shooting, utilizing still photos from surveillance footage. The timeline revealed that the two suspects arrived at the McDonald’s parking lot at 7:44 p.m. on April 23rd, remaining for approximately 28 minutes before leaving. The victim, Caleb, was seen entering the same McDonald’s at 8:22 p.m.

Surveillance footage further showed the male suspect walking eastbound on Nees Avenue, west of Willow, at 8:33 p.m., around the same time the white Tesla, driven by the female suspect, returned to the McDonald’s parking lot. The male suspect was then seen exiting the McDonald’s at 8:38 p.m., followed by footage of him inside the restaurant at 8:54 p.m.

Tragically, at 8:56 p.m., the suspect followed Caleb and his friends out of the restaurant, and the shooting occurred shortly thereafter. The male suspect was seen fleeing west through the parking lot towards Willow. Subsequent footage captured the suspect running westbound on Nees, and the Tesla, driven by the female suspect, was observed making U-turns in the area, believed to be searching for him. Later footage, not released to the public, showed the suspect entering the Tesla and leaving the neighborhood.

While acknowledging the community’s desire for more information, particularly regarding motive, Chief Fleming stated that the investigation is ongoing and he could not provide further details at this time. “This is an ongoing investigation. We probably still have 2 months’ worth of work, still waiting on search warrant returns, processing evidence that we’ve obtained,” he explained. The case will be submitted to the District Attorney’s office for review, who will determine if charges will be filed. A decision on the suspects’ continued custody is expected by Wednesday.

Chief Fleming extended his gratitude to Valley Crime Stoppers and the media for their role in keeping the case in the public eye, which he believes helped generate valuable information. He also thanked the Clovis Unified School District and their police department for their collaboration.

Addressing the grieving family of Caleb, Chief Flemming expressed his deepest condolences. “I can’t imagine what the family is going through right now… I guess my hope is by us arresting the murder suspects in this case, it brings some sense of closure for them, but obviously it’s not going to bring back Caleb in this case.”

Responding to questions, Chief Fleming confirmed that a firearm had been recovered at the shooter’s residence during a search warrant, but declined to provide further details about the weapon. He also addressed the rumors circulating on social media, urging the public to rely on official information from the police department.

Regarding the charges against the female suspect, Chief Fleming refrained from further comment. He also clarified that while nearly 100 tips were received through Crime Stoppers, none directly led to the arrests, so the reward will not be paid out.

Chief Fleming reiterated the Clovis Police Department’s commitment to a thorough investigation to ensure accountability for the crime. He also expressed his pride in the Clovis community, noting their strong reaction to the violence. “This doesn’t happen in Clovis and the community was not happy about it,” he said.

He confirmed that the suspects have retained attorneys and are not related. While he indicated a belief that they were in a dating relationship, he did not elaborate further. He also confirmed that the victim and the suspects knew each other, having met at school.

Chief Fleming explained that upon deciding to make the arrests, detectives established surveillance and contacted the suspects’ attorneys, who facilitated their surrender to the police department. He stated that this cooperation helped ensure a safe apprehension. The decision on whether the suspects will be charged as adults rests with the District Attorney’s office.

As the investigation continues, the Clovis community remains united in seeking justice for Caleb and his family. The Clovis Roundup will continue to provide updates on this developing story as they become available.
