October 14, 2025 — A new sign has been installed at David McDonald Park in Clovis, recognizing the life and legacy of local businessman and philanthropist David McDonald. The sign, located at the park’s entrance at Temperance and Sierra avenues, was placed ahead of this weekend’s annual Clovis Night Out celebration to help visitors learn more about the park’s namesake.
David McDonald was best known as the former owner of Pelco, a security camera company that became one of the area’s largest private employers. He purchased the business in 1987 and oversaw its relocation to a large facility in Clovis, where it grew into a global manufacturer with thousands of employees worldwide. In 2007, McDonald sold Pelco to Schneider Electric for approximately $1.22 billion.
Beyond his business success, McDonald was widely recognized for his community involvement and philanthropy. He supported several local projects and organizations, including the Miss Winkles Pet Adoption Center and the California 9/11 Memorial, both located in Clovis. He also contributed to regional efforts such as the Fresno Chaffee Zoo and other civic initiatives throughout Fresno County.
McDonald passed away in January 2019 at the age of 69. His longtime commitment to the community and to projects that benefit Clovis residents has made a lasting impact. The new park sign highlights these contributions, ensuring that his legacy will continue to be known by future generations of parkgoers.
Clovis Night Out, now in its 14th year, will take place Saturday, Oct. 18, at David McDonald Park from 4 p.m. until dark. The free community event will feature live music, local food and retail vendors, police and fire displays, family activities, and a drone light show to close out the evening.
Attendees are encouraged to stop by the park’s entrance during the event to view the new sign and learn more about the man whose generosity and leadership helped shape the Clovis community.
