December 31, 2025 — The City of Clovis is accepting applications for a part-time Animal Services Officer, a role that supports animal care, public safety and regulatory enforcement within the community.
The extra-help, part-time position is based in Clovis and falls under the Police Department’s Animal Services Division. The job pays $21 per hour and is intended to assist with daily animal control and shelter operations. Applications are open now and must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 9.
Under the supervision of the Animal Services Supervisor, the Animal Services Officer performs a wide range of duties tied to animal welfare and local regulations. Responsibilities include enforcing state and local animal laws, investigating animal bites, nuisance complaints, barking and cruelty cases, and issuing citations when necessary. The position also involves caring for animals at the shelter, including cleaning kennels and facilities, feeding animals, and assisting with adoption-related tasks.
Officers may also be responsible for capturing and releasing wild animals, drafting bite reports for the Fresno County Health Department, maintaining records, answering phones, dispatching calls, and responding to public questions. The role includes operating city vehicles, maintaining inventories, ordering supplies, and appearing in court when required.
While much of the work follows established procedures, Animal Services Officers are expected to work independently after training and may be on call during off-duty hours to respond to emergency situations involving animals.
Applicants must possess a valid California driver’s license with a good driving record. The minimum education requirement is equivalent to a high school diploma, though applicants who are currently attending college or planning to attend college are also encouraged to apply. A combination of education and experience that meets the job requirements will be considered.
City officials say the position offers an opportunity for individuals interested in animal care, public service and community engagement to make a direct impact at the local level.
