August 5, 2025 — Clovis North graduate McKay Madsen has been honored as the 2025 State Boys Athlete of the Year by Cal-Hi Sports, a recognition that highlights an extraordinary high school career defined by dominance in both football and track and field.

The award places Madsen in elite company as only the third athlete from Clovis Unified to earn the honor and the first from the CIF Central Section since 2018. He is also the first-ever winner from Clovis North, solidifying his legacy as one of the most versatile athletes to come through the school.

Madsen’s senior year was marked by a rare and remarkable “double-double” achievement at the CIF State Track and Field Championships. He won both the shot put and discus titles for the second year in a row, becoming only the second athlete in state history to accomplish that feat. His final throws — 69 feet, 11 inches in shot put and 210 feet, 8 inches in discus — were his best of the season and among the top marks in the nation.

On the football field, Madsen’s impact was just as significant. Playing both running back and linebacker, he rushed for more than 1,200 yards and 19 touchdowns while also making 49 tackles and four interceptions on defense. His contributions helped the Broncos remain among the Central Section’s top football programs, following a junior season in which the team captured the Division I section championship and advanced deep into the state playoffs.

Madsen’s accomplishments extend beyond athletics. A dedicated student, he graduated with a 4.3 GPA while balancing the demands of two sports at the highest level. His discipline, leadership, and commitment to excellence have made him a standout role model for younger athletes.

This summer, Madsen departed for an 18-month mission in Mendoza, Argentina, as part of his commitment to his faith. Following his mission, he will join the football program at Brigham Young University, where he is expected to make an impact on the field.

Madsen’s recognition as State Boys Athlete of the Year caps off a high school career that will be remembered not only for his rare athletic achievements but also for his dedication to his school, his community, and his future. His success adds another chapter to Clovis North’s athletic legacy and serves as an inspiration to future athletes across the region.
