August 6, 2025 — The Fresno County Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved Doug Sloan as the new Fresno County Counsel. Sloan’s first day in the position will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

Sloan brings a wealth of legal experience to the role, having most recently served for three years as the City Attorney for Santa Monica. Prior to that, he spent a significant portion of his career in Fresno, serving a total of 16 years as both the City Attorney and an Assistant City Attorney. His background also includes 19 years as a trial lawyer in private practice, during which he tried more than three dozen jury cases.

A long-time California resident who grew up in Missouri, Sloan is also an avid bicyclist who once completed a solo 1,657-mile ride from Canada to Mexico. He lives in Fresno with his wife, Janet, and their two sons, both of whom are students at Fresno State.

“I’m grateful to the Board of Supervisors for this opportunity to return home and work with some great people at the County,” Sloan said.
