December 29, 2025 — The City of Clovis Recreation Section is inviting families to sign up their youngest athletes for its upcoming Tiny Dribblers Basketball League, a coed recreational program designed for children ages 4 and 5.

The winter league runs from January 5 through February 21, 2026, and will take place at the Clovis Recreation Center, located at 3495 Clovis Ave. Registration is currently open and continues through early January, with a cost of $110 per child. A $10 sibling discount is also available.

Tiny Dribblers focuses on introducing basic basketball skills while emphasizing teamwork, listening, and sportsmanship in a fun, age-appropriate setting. Participants will receive one hour of practice each week, six regular-season games, and a complete package that includes a team uniform, practice shirt, team photo, and end-of-season awards.

Practices will be held on Mondays at 5 p.m., while games will take place Saturdays at 10 a.m. All games will be officiated by a qualified referee. A skills and drills evaluation is scheduled for Monday, January 5, to help staff place players on teams. Teammate requests will be selected on the day of assessment.

City recreation officials say the program is designed not just to teach basketball, but to help children build confidence and social skills at an early age.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, participation in organized sports during early childhood supports physical development, improves coordination, and helps children learn important social behaviors such as cooperation and taking turns. Research published by the Aspen Institute’s Project Play also shows that positive early sports experiences can increase the likelihood that children remain physically active later in life.

Programs like Tiny Dribblers also give children structured opportunities to interact with peers, follow simple rules, and practice listening to adult instruction — skills that benefit them both on and off the court. Studies from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention note that regular physical activity in early childhood is linked to improved attention, emotional regulation, and overall well-being.

The City of Clovis Recreation Section continues to expand youth programming aimed at providing safe, inclusive activities that strengthen families and encourage healthy habits from a young age.

Parents are encouraged to register early, as space in the Tiny Dribblers league is limited.
