October 12, 2025 — Elegance met compassion Saturday night as more than 200 guests filled the Clovis Veterans Memorial District for the second annual Spirit Gala, an evening of fine dining, live entertainment, and generosity—all in support of Wings Advocacy Fresno, a project of WestCare California.
The black-tie fundraiser featured a silent auction, live DJ, and a gourmet dinner provided by The Boarding Pass catering, offering chicken, beef, and vegetarian entrees. Attendees mingled under soft lights while bidding on prizes ranging from themed gift baskets and lottery ticket bundles to travel packages, including trips to Mexico and the Bahamas.
By the end of the night, the event had raised an impressive $25,000 to help provide mattresses, pillows, and bedding for individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness.
“This fundraiser helps us continue our mission,” said Brittany Sosa, community relations manager for WestCare California and the event’s lead coordinator. “Wings Advocacy Fresno is a nonprofit that takes gently used furniture from the community, refurbishes it, and gives it to people who are starting over. But our biggest cost is mattresses—everyone deserves more than four walls. They deserve a bed to sleep in.”
Wings Advocacy Fresno began in 2013 as a grassroots, volunteer-run organization before merging with WestCare California in 2023. Today, it remains volunteer-powered, with ten active helpers working alongside Sosa to sort, clean, and deliver furniture throughout the Fresno area.
“This event has grown so much since last year,” Sosa said. “Having the venue secured early made a huge difference. It takes a whole year of planning and an amazing team to make something like this happen.”
Sponsors including EVC Homes, EECU, and National Labs helped make the evening possible, joining dozens of local donors and table sponsors who contributed to the cause.
Those interested in getting involved can volunteer in Wings Advocacy Fresno’s warehouse on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Saturdays, or become a recurring donor to help sustain the program’s impact.
“It’s exhausting but so rewarding,” Sosa added. “Seeing how much a bed or couch can mean to someone who’s been sleeping on the floor—that’s what this is all about.”
